Mantram- 4. { Cosmic  form  of  'Brahmam' - the 'Indweller' of  all  living  beings }


"Agnir - murdha  cakshui  candra - suryau

disah  srotre  vag  vivrtasca  vedah,

vayuh  prano  hrdayam  visva - masya

padbhyam  prthivi  hyesa  sarva - bhutani - ratma."


agnih  =  Fire  ( the  celestial  region  called  Dyuloka );

murdha  =  ( is )  the  head;

cakshusi  =  the  two  eyes;

candra - suryau  =  the  moon  and  the  sun;

disah  =  directions,  quarters  of  the  sky;

srotre  =  the  two  ears;

vak  =  ( His )  speech;

vivrtah  =  declared;

ca  =  and;

vedah  =  veda-s;

vayuh  =  the  air  or  the  wind;

pranah  =  ( His )  breath;

hrdayam  =  (His )  mind;

visvam  =  the  universe;

asya  =  of  this  inner  Self  of  all  beings;

padbhyam  =  from  his  feet;

prthivi  =  the  earth;

( jata  =  originated );

hi  =  indded;

esah  =  He;

sarva - bhutani - antratma  =  the  inner  Self  of  all  beings.


" Fire  ( Agni )  is  his  head;  Sun  and  Moon  =  his  eyes;  four  Quarters  or  Directions  =  his  ears;  the  declared  Veda-s  =  his  speech;  the  Air  =  his  breath; the  Universe  =  his  mind  ( heart );  the  Earth =  originated  from  from  his  feet;  He  is  indded  the  inner  Self  of  all  beings."


Discussion-1.  Continuing  the  analogy  in  the  last  mantram,  there  will  not  be  any  contradiction  if  we  were  to  describe  the  cotton  as  the  sum-total  shape  of  all  patterns  in  the  piece  of  cloth.

Here  in  this  mantram,  we  are  having  a  description  of  the  "cause  in  terms  of  its  effects."
